Quibi, the mobile-first entertainment company, and Vox Media Studios, announced gaming content creator and entrepreneur Mari Takahashi will join SPEEDRUN by Polygon as a correspondent. SPEEDRUN by Polygon, hosted by Jimmy Mondal, offers a jam-packed punch of gaming-related intel with insightful cultural deep dives into the biggest gaming topics including expert analysis, exclusives, creator interviews, and more. In her new role, Takahashi will join Mondal in exploring the diverse communities that make up gaming culture: from top Twitch streamers to niche roleplaying groups. Her first episode, which is live today, features an interview with professional Twitch streamer iamBrandon about how he built a community around playing horror games, and why audiences find the genre so entertaining to watch.
“Like most kids in my generation, I played games as a hobby without any expectation to ever step foot as a professional in this industry,” says Takahashi, who co-founded the award-winning Smosh Games, and was named a “Top Influencer in Gaming” by Forbes. “I’ve met some of my dearest friends across the globe thanks to video games, which is why I’m inspired to continue building the SPEEDRUN community and bringing together like-minded folks who both love and are curious about the narratives, people, and events that shape this awesome industry and its evolving culture. I’m stoked to join forces with Jimmy and Polygon to share fun and compelling stories on Quibi!”
New episodes of SPEEDRUN by Polygon are available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only on Quibi. The show is produced by Polygon, Vox Media’s gaming and entertainment network, and Vox Media Studios.
