Polygon, Vox Media’s gaming and entertainment brand, today announced it will host a 24-hour Twitch stream raising money for Trans Lifeline, a grassroots hotline and non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis. Beginning Thursday, June 9th, the “Polygonathon” livestream will feature Polygon video talent Christina, Clayton Ashley, Jenna Stoeber, Mike Mahardy, Patrick Gill, Tara Long, and Simone de Rochefort, as well as influential voices from across the gaming community. This marks the brand’s second Polygonathon event following its inaugural livestream in 2020, which raised $120,000 for The Innocence Project over the course of 56 hours.
“At Polygon, we’ve made it our mission to cultivate a compassionate community who share in our belief that everyone — regardless of age, race, gender, or sexual orientation — deserves basic human decency,” says Polygon executive producer Tara Long. “We’re thrilled to be raising funds in this charity stream for Trans Lifeline, an organization that has tirelessly devoted itself to supporting transgender people in crisis. Together with the support of our community, we’re ready to step up and help out the best way we know how.”
The livestream draws on Polygon’s hyper-engaged video audience, which includes over 1.2 million YouTube followers, and over 52K Twitch followers. The stream will feature over 10 games, including Jackbox, Gartic Phone, Switch Sports, Valorant 1v5, Moonglow Bay, WWE 2K22, FTL: Faster Than Light, Shipbreakers, No Man’s Sky, Sea of Thieves, Mario Party, and more.
“In 2022, an unprecedented onslaught of anti-trans bills have been introduced across the U.S. and we have seen a corresponding rise in calls to our hotline each time these bills are passed,” says Lauren Gray, director of advancement at Trans Lifeline. “Trans Lifeline’s work to connect trans people to the resources and support our community needs is more important now than ever. We are deeply grateful to Polygon for their support and for hosting this fundraiser so that trans people can have what we need to survive and thrive.”
