The Vox Media Podcast Network today announced a partnership with Netflix to bring video episodes of two of its acclaimed podcasts — Vox’s Unexplainable and Vulture’s Switched On Pop — exclusively to the streaming service. New video episodes of both shows will begin rolling out on Netflix the week of July 13, on Mondays for Unexplainable and Tuesdays for Switched On Pop.
Unexplainable and Switched On Pop are the first Vox Media titles to join Netflix, and this marks their first foray into always-on video programming. Unexplainable, Vox’s podcast exploring scientific mysteries, will publish weekly video episodes on Mondays. The first few episodes tackle questions such as how we know what we know about dinosaurs, why some people hear music while others hear lyrics when they listen to songs, and why we may want to rethink our relationship with the sun.
Listen closely, hear more: on Switched On Pop, musicologist Nate Sloan and songwriter Charlie Harding show how popular music works and what it says about us. Video episodes of both shows will be exclusive to Netflix, while audio episodes will continue to be available on all major podcast platforms.
“As more and more people are watching podcasts on screens both big and small, we’re excited to partner with Netflix to bring our shows to streaming audiences worldwide,” said Ray Chao, SVP & GM of Podcasts at Vox Media.
Unexplainable is a podcast about science’s biggest questions — it takes listeners right up to the edge of what we know, and then keeps on going. The Unexplainable team — Noam Hassenfeld, Byrd Pinkerton, Sally Helm, and Meradith Hoddinott — tackles scientific mysteries, unanswered questions, and everything we learn diving into the unknown.
Switched On Pop is a podcast about listening closer to pop music to understand why it moves us. Hosted by Nate Sloan, professor of musicology, and Charlie Harding, songwriter and music educator, Switched on Pop breaks down the musical ideas and production choices behind today’s biggest hits, pulling songs apart to understand how they work and why they matter.
