Join Us at SXSW For Final Day of The Deep End by Vox Media!

MELINDA GATES, JOSÉ ANDRÉS, SB NATION SELECTION SUNDAY AND MORE EATER-CURATED FOOD

Welcome back for the last day of The Deep End by Vox Media at SXSW! Swing by The Belmont Austin - 305 W 6th Street for the Speakeasy Arcade featuring signature cocktails from 11AM-6PM, and stay for the rest of our jam-packed events schedule!

Even though today is the last day of The Deep End by Vox Media at SXSW you can still catch Vox Media folks on the SXSW stage! Eater’s Matt Buchanan interviews Modernist Cuisine founder Nathan Myhrvold on shaping the future of bread on Monday at 12:30, Vox’s Eliza Barclay interviews leaders from Terranova Ranch and Urban Organics on modern farms on Tuesday at 12:30, and The Verge’s Adi Robertson discusses VR’s potential impact on empathy and intimacy on Wednesday at 12:30.

Here’s the full lineup of events for Sunday, March 11, 2018:

11:30AM - 1PM: Eater-selected bites from Contigo and Veracruz All Natural.

One of Eater Austin’s essential restaurants, Contigo “is the perfect example of Austin in restaurant form.” Owner and chef Andrew Wisheheart will be serving signature lunch bites in The Deep End on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to come early!

Also one of Eater Austin’s essential restaurants, Veracruz All Natural is known for its fresh tacos and salsas and homemade tortillas and chips made daily. Lucky for you, Chef Reyna Vazquez will be dishing out the best cochinita in Austin at The Deep End. Lunch bites are served on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to come early!

11:30AM - 12:30PM: Recode Editor in Chief, Dan Frommer with Milk Bar Chef Christina Tosi

What does it take to build a brand (and a business) that not only delights customers, but keeps them coming back again and again for more? Meet Christina Tosi, the baking whiz behind Milk Bar, who is building an empire that includes retail stores, cool product collaborations, classes, books, television appearances and more, all while engaging and enticing an ever-growing fanbase.

12:45PM - 1:30PM: Is This Thing On? : A chat with MailChimp, Midroll and VaynerTalent, moderated by Vox Media’s CMO, Lindsay Nelson

Moderated by Vox Media CMO Lindsay Nelson, we will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the ever-growing world of podcasting. From advertising and discoverability to storytelling and voice UI, we’ll unpack the innovations that are happening across a medium everyone is dipping their toes (and ears) into. How can podcasters and brands leverage fresh technology, provide differentiated value and find their audiences?

2PM - 3PM: Recode Decode with Kara Swisher and Chef and activist José Andrés

Join Kara Swisher for a live edition of Recode Decode, featuring Michelin-star-studded chef José Andrés. They’ll discuss his humanitarian venture, World Central Kitchen, and the role that social media and food can play in post-disaster community building.

3:30PM - 4:30PM: The Ezra Klein Show, with special guest Melinda Gates

Vox’s editor at large, Ezra Klein, will talk one-on-one with Melinda Gates, co-chair of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, about the power of philanthropy. If you’re not in Austin, fear not: The interview will be available to stream on Vox’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

5 PM- 6 PM Recode Decode Live with Kara Swisher and Valerie Jarrett

One of tech’s most prominent journalists, Kara Swisher is known for her insightful reporting and straight-shooting style. During this live episode of Recode Decode, Kara will sit down with attorney, businesswoman and civic leader Valerie Jarrett to talk diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, how to lead in the #metoo era, and what tech leaders should consider in today’s political landscape.

5:30PM - 7:30PM: SB Nation Selection Sunday FUNday hosted by Elena Bergeron and Charlotte Wilder

Come FAN with SB Nation for an evening of healthy competition. First, test your gaming skills in our Breaking NBA 2K 1-on-1 tournament. We’ll dip back into the NBA Y2K reserves and build two NBA 2K18 teams: One of tiny, helpless babies and one of 7’10” monsters! You’ll get a chance to compete for bragging rights and a prize. Then, we’ll tip off March Madness with a Selection Sunday viewing party. If your team didn’t make it, or worse, you don’t yet have a team, look no further: SB Nation editor in chief Elena Bergeron, SB Nation writer Charlotte Wilder and a surprise guest will help fans choose a college hoops team to follow through the bracket. You may even learn something to help you win your pool!

6PM - 8PM: Eater Texas Essentials - come try some of Eater’s official food-faves from around the state

Join Eater editors as we taste dishes from some of Texas’s most essential restaurants. Determined after months of deliberation and years of covering the food scene, the full list was crafted by Eater’s national critic Bill Addison and a team of local experts. The full list will be released before the event, and a few places from the list will be cooking live Sunday evening at The Deep End. Come hungry!

8:15PM - 9PM - Musical Spotlight with Walker Lukens

Walker Lukens has been called one of the best songwriters in Texas. The Austin-based, Houston-bred singer, multi-instrumentalist has been called wonderfully inventive, and a veteran balladeer with sudden indie rock ambitions.
