Today, Vox Media announced the launch of a new content product, The Highlight by Vox, on Apple News+. The Highlight by Vox is a premium editorial product that will explore big ideas across policy, culture, technology and academia through in-depth features, conversation-driving essays, on-the-ground dispatches, and deep Q&As. The Highlight will include dozens of pieces of premium content a month, available through Apple News’ service for a week after they publish, and then will be available on Vox.com.
Vox fans can expect “regular contributions from Vox staff writers that our audience has come to know and trust, along with a diverse range of new voices and contributors,” explained Vox Editor In Chief Lauren Williams and Executive Editor Allison Rockey on Vox.com. “We’ll build a smart, deeply satisfying collection of articles that will inform and surprise readers.”
The Vox leaders went on to explain their interest in partnering with Apple: “Apple doesn’t just rely on algorithms for its news judgment —it employs a staff of experienced journalists to uphold editorial standards. We have a large, consistent audience on the platform. And the scope of Apple News’ reach is impressive.”
The move is an exciting step for all of Vox Media’s editorial networks and storytelling businesses. As Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff wrote to staff this morning, “This launch lays the foundation for a paid membership on our own platform, which we’re defining now and are excited to launch later this year.”
Users can open Apple News+ on iPhones now to subscribe to The Highlight and enjoy immersive news and magazine reading experiences.
