Today, at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, The Beauty of Blackness, a film created by Vox Creative and its story-hunting division Epic Stories, in partnership with Sephora, Digitas and Ventureland, was awarded Best Feature Film. The powerful documentary, tells the story of Fashion Fair Cosmetics- the first brand to create a line of cosmetics specifically for women of Color.
Launching in the 1970s, the brand revolutionized the beauty industry and became a household name for every Black woman in America. The film unveils Fashion Fair’s rise, fall and rebirth in 2021, against a tumultuous shift in commerce and culture. The film gives a front-row look at the massive undertaking that goes into reviving an iconic beauty brand amidst a new cultural context, how the industry has changed, and how much progress we still have to make.
The film was co-directed by Kiana Moore, VP of Epic Stories at Vox Creative and Tiffany Johnson (Black Monday, Dear White People and Twenties).
The Tribeca X win is the latest recognition for the film, which has previously been recognized awards at The Clio’s where we earned Bronze for product/service film: Five Minutes and Over, The One Show for Full-Length Video and Brand Partnerships, ADC Awards for Motion/Film - Documentary and Craft in Motion / Film- Direction. The film was also named to the LA Independent Women Film Awards and was a finalist at the Campaign Brand Film Awards, Campaign US Power of Purpose and AICP.
