Vox Media agreed to acquire New York Media, the company behind the biweekly print magazine and five popular online offshoots, in an all-stock transaction.

‘For any given policy proposal, I’ve come to expect that Vox is going to have one of the smartest, clearest analyses out there.’ writes New York Times Opinion Columnist David Loenhardt on Vox’s 2020 coverage.

The Ringer, a sports and culture website created by Bill Simmons, will soon be hosted on Vox Media’s platform but maintain editorial independence. Mr. Simmons, a former ESPN personality, will keep ownership of The Ringer, but Vox Media will sell advertising for the site and share in the revenue. The Ringer will leave its current home on Medium, where it has been hosted since it began in June 2016.

The company, with a stable of sites including Vox, the Verge, Recode and SB Nation, named Melissa Bell, its vice president for growth, as its publisher.

Vox Media has acquired ReCode, the news website led by the veteran journalists Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.
