Today, Chorus welcomes the Deseret News, the oldest continuously operated company in Utah, as its newest publisher. The Salt Lake City-based newspaper is tracking to launch a new site on Chorus, the only all-in-one revenue, publishing, and audience platform built for modern media companies, during summer 2019.
“Vox Media’s Chorus business is committed to building and serving newsrooms for the future,” says Trei Brundrett, Chief Operating Officer, Vox Media. “Having served our own Vox Media editorial networks for nearly a decade, Chorus is designed to sustain and grow media businesses, all while offering unparalleled ease-of use for its users, and the best experiences for its audiences and advertisers from day one. We’re thrilled to work with the Deseret News in enabling them to do their best storytelling for their dedicated readership.”
Since its founding in 1850, the Deseret News has garnered both local affinity and national attention. The newspaper was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1962 and has consistently delivered industry-leading and award-winning coverage in Utah news, politics, faith, opinion and sports. Recently, the Deseret News funded an international reporting series on pollution with a grant from the Solutions Journalism Network.
“We’re excited to partner with Chorus to launch the next iteration of DeseretNews.com,” said Burke Olsen, Head Digital Officer for the Deseret News. “But this decision is about much more than choosing software to host and run a website. It’s also about enabling our journalists to continue their rigorous reporting with top-of-the-line software, serving our growing local and national audiences on our site and other platforms, and providing our advertising partners with appealing opportunities.”
Vox Media’s Concert is also pleased to add the Deseret News to its portfolio of brand-safe sites on which marketers can run their advertising content. All Chorus customers are eligible to join Concert’s exclusive marketplace of publishers and become an inventory partner to unlock premium advertising revenue.
Deseret News is the second newspaper to join Chorus since the platform officially began licensing to other publishers in 2017. The Chicago Sun-Times, the first newspaper, is currently migrating to Chorus and will launch in the coming weeks. Chorus also powers Vox Media’s editorial networks (Curbed, Eater, Polygon, Recode, SB Nation, The Verge and Vox), The Ringer, Funny Or Die and The McElroy Family.
